Cremulators

Cremulators for Processing Cremated Remains

A cremulator processes the skeletal fragments left after cremation into the fine, uniform ash returned to families, the final step in a complete cremation service. Ours are built for a controlled, repeatable process, with straightforward operation and easy cleaning between cycles so each set of remains is kept separate. Designed and manufactured by Macrotec, drawing on over 40 years of experience engineering process equipment for the cremation and thermal treatment industries.

How It Works

A Mechanical Process, Not a Combustion One

After a cremation cycle finishes, what remains in the chamber is not ash but brittle, calcified bone fragments, the calcium phosphate structures that survive the combustion of soft tissue. A cremulator's job is purely mechanical: it has no burner and no combustion chamber of its own, and plays no part in the cremation itself.

Those fragments are loaded into an enclosed processing chamber, where a mechanical action reduces them to a fine, consistent grain size, the uniform ash that families expect when remains are returned to them. The cycle is short by comparison with cremation itself, so it does not become the bottleneck in a facility's workflow.

What separates a well-designed cremulator from a basic grinder is what happens between cycles. The processing chamber has to be cleared and cleaned thoroughly before the next set of remains goes in, because keeping each case separate is a genuine chain-of-custody requirement for any crematorium, not a cosmetic one.

Applications & Use Cases

Any Crematorium Returning Fine, Uniform Remains

Municipal and private human crematoria, pet crematoria, funeral homes offering an ash return service, and any facility that needs the remains it returns to families to be consistent and fine.

Features & Benefits

The Final Step, Done Right

Fast processing cycle

A short cycle keeps pace with cremation throughput, so remains do not queue up waiting to be processed at a busy facility.

Fine, uniform ash output

Bone fragments are reduced to a consistent grain size, the form families expect when remains are returned to them.

Easy cleaning between cycles

The processing chamber is designed to be cleared and cleaned quickly, so operators can move straight to the next set of remains.

Keeps remains separate

Straightforward, thorough cleaning between cycles is what prevents cross-contamination between cases, a real operational and reputational risk for any crematorium.

Simple, safe operation

Controls are kept straightforward, so staff can be trained on the equipment quickly without specialist mechanical experience.

Pairs with our cremators

Built to complete the process started in our human and pet cremators, so a facility can source its complete cremation service from one manufacturer.

Compliance & Certification

Quality and Safety, Independently Certified

As a mechanical process step with no combustion of its own, a cremulator is not subject to air emission limits directly. Its role in a compliant cremation service still matters: consistent processing and thorough cleaning between cycles support the chain-of-custody standard crematoria are held to. Our quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management systems are independently certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
