Macrotec industrial filtration system with ceramic filter housings and wet scrubber vessels
Air Pollution Control

Industrial Filtration Systems

Macrotec supplies advanced filtration systems for air pollution control, from high-efficiency wet scrubbers for acid gas removal to ceramic filtration and filter elements for sub-micron particulate capture.
Product Range

The Filtration Range

From replacement filter elements to complete wet scrubbing and ceramic filtration systems, each option targets a different part of the emissions problem.

Filter Elements

Ceramic Filter Elements for High-Temperature Duty

Filter elements are the working part of a ceramic filtration system: rigid, hollow candles that the flue gas passes through, capturing sub-micron particulate on the outer surface while cleaned gas continues to the stack. We supply them within new systems and as spares for units already in service.

Because the elements are rigid ceramic rather than fabric, they hold their shape and their rating at temperatures that destroy bag filters, and they tolerate acidic and abrasive gas streams. Cleaning is by reverse pulse in place, so a change-out stays a planned maintenance task.

Filter Elements
  • Rigid ceramic construction
  • High-temperature rating
  • Sub-micron particulate capture
  • Reverse-pulse cleaning in place
  • Resists acidic gas streams
  • Supplied new or as spares
Wet Scrubbers

Wet Scrubbers for Acid Gas Removal

Our wet scrubbers remove acid gases from a flue gas stream by drawing it through a fine spray of alkaline solution. Hydrogen chloride, sulphur dioxide and hydrogen fluoride are absorbed into the liquid, and the gas is cooled on its way to the stack.

Wet scrubbing suits high acid-gas loads and sites with a reliable water supply and a route for treating the effluent. Supplied within a Macrotec thermal plant or fitted to existing equipment, with the vessel and dosing sized to gas volume and inlet loading.

Wet Scrubbers
  • Neutralises HCl, SO₂ and HF
  • High acid-gas removal
  • Alkaline reagent dosing
  • Flue gas quenching and cooling
  • Sized to gas volume
  • New plant or retrofit
Ceramic Filtration

Ceramic Filtration Systems

A complete ceramic filtration system pairs dry scrubbing with high-efficiency particulate capture. A dosing agent, sodium bicarbonate and/or activated carbon, is injected into the flue gas to neutralise acid gases and adsorb heavy metals and dioxins, then the gas passes through the ceramic elements.

Because the scrubbing is dry, there is no effluent and no water treatment to build, licence or maintain. Removing acid gases at high temperature also prevents dioxins reforming downstream, which is why the combination is recognised as Best Available Techniques under the EU IED.

Ceramic Filtration
  • 99.99% filtration efficiency
  • No water, no effluent treatment
  • Bicarbonate or activated carbon
  • Sub-micron, PM2.5 and PM10
  • Prevents dioxin reformation
  • Best Available Techniques (BAT)
Why Macrotec

Filtration That Holds Up in Service

High-temperature capability

Rigid ceramic elements hold their rating where fabric bag filters fail, so filtration performance survives the gas temperatures thermal plant actually runs at.

Wet or dry, matched to site

Wet scrubbing where acid-gas loads are high and water is available, dry scrubbing with ceramic filtration where effluent handling is impractical.

New plant or retrofit

Supplied integrated with Macrotec thermal equipment or fitted to existing plant, with elements and spares available long after commissioning.

Applications

Filtration for Stacks Across Heavy Industry

Macrotec filtration systems run on incinerator and cremator stacks and across cement, mining, chemical and waste-to-energy plants, wherever particulate and acid gases must be brought within limits.

Incinerator & cremator stacks

Cement, lime & minerals

Mining & metallurgy

Chemical & petrochemical

Foundries & smelters

Waste-to-energy & municipal

Compliance

Built for Emissions Compliance

Our filtration systems are specified against the emission limits that govern our clients' operations, supporting the EU Industrial Emissions Directive (2010/75/EU) and South African NEM:AQA, with dry scrubbing and ceramic filtration recognised as Best Available Techniques, and the applicable requirements confirmed for each project. Our quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management systems are independently certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
