Controlled-Air Combustion of Waste Oil Streams
Waste oil and oily residues from mining, refining and industrial processing operations can carry recoverable quantities of precious metals, picked up through contact with catalysts, contaminated equipment or process residues. Disposed of or burned purely for fuel value, that value is lost.
Thermal processing recovers it instead. The feed is introduced into a refractory-lined chamber and combusted under controlled combustion air. The organic fraction, the oil itself, is destroyed at temperature, while the non-combustible metal content concentrates in the ash and residue left behind.
Combustion air, chamber temperature and residence time are controlled through the cycle in the same way as on our carbon fines gold recovery furnace, holding conditions steady so that recovery is consistent and stack emissions stay within the applicable limits.
Because waste oil streams vary widely in viscosity, contaminant loading, moisture content and metal concentration, each installation is engineered around the specific feed rather than sold as a single fixed specification.
- Controlled-air combustion of a variable feed
- Metal content concentrates in furnace ash
- Model range and throughput SPEC NEEDED
Recovering Value from Oily Waste Streams
Waste oil and oily residue recovery applies wherever mining, refining or metallurgical operations generate an oil stream that may carry precious metal content, from mine site workshops to refineries processing spent catalysts. Macrotec's recovery furnace range already serves major gold producers, including AngloGold Ashanti and Barrick Gold, whose sites generate exactly this kind of residual stream.

Engineered Around Your Feed
Configured to your feed
Viscosity, contaminant loading, moisture content and metal concentration all vary by site, so the unit is engineered around your specific waste oil stream rather than sold as one fixed specification.
Controlled combustion of a complex feed
Chamber temperature and combustion air are held through the cycle so the organic fraction burns off completely and consistently, run after run.
Emissions control options
Gas cleaning is specified against the emission limits that apply on your site, the same framework we apply across our thermal process range.
In-house engineered combustion control
Combustion control and instrumentation are developed in-house, the part of a high-temperature unit where recovery and emissions performance are actually won or lost.
Concentrates value instead of losing it
Precious metal content that would otherwise be lost to disposal or straight fuel-burning concentrates in the ash and residue left behind, ready for onward refining.
Built for continuous industrial duty
Refractory, structure and controls are engineered for continuous operation at mine sites, refineries and metallurgical plants.
Emissions and Safety, Independently Certified
The waste oil recovery system is high-temperature thermal plant, so it is specified against the same emissions framework as the rest of our range, supporting the EU Industrial Emissions Directive (2010/75/EU) and South African NEM:AQA, with the applicable limits and any gas cleaning confirmed for each project. Our quality, environmental and occupational health and safety management systems are independently certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Configured to the Feed, Not a Fixed Size
Unlike the carbon fines furnace, this line does not yet have a published model range. Sizing depends on the variables below, confirmed with our engineers at quotation stage.
This page requires input from Macrotec's engineering team on: a defined model range or sizing basis, typical throughput, operating temperature, fuel type, footprint and installed weight for this line.
Support, Maintenance & Spares
Every waste oil recovery system is backed by Macrotec's after-sales team: on-site commissioning, operator training, a reliable spare parts supply, and maintenance agreements sized to your operation. Our Maintenance & Repairs service covers the full recovery furnace range, wherever it is installed.
